Write Your Book This Year

I am excited about all the topics and information that I can share with you. I look forward to sharing my article with you every other month, and I want you to be excited and look forward to reading it as well!

As we welcome the New Year, I’d like to start with an invitation for you “To Write Your Book This Year.” You know the one. The one that you have been thinking about forever. Stop talking about it and just sit down and write it. Here are eight simple tips to get you started:

  1. Just write. Fix it later. That means do not worry about anything, just write!
  2. Make it a habit. Carve out an hour or two early in the morning before the rest of the house gets up, or before you go to work.
  3. Writing is a job. Treat it like one, it’s not a hobby; it is work.
  4. Be ruthless in managing your time. Use thirty-minute or one-hour intervals during which you may not do anything but write.
  5. No checking email! It interrupts our attention span and fragments our concentration.
  6. Set interim goals. Write 1,000 words a day or a specific amount each day.
  7. Work toward a deadline. Everyone needs deadlines- self-imposed or by others.
  8. Reward yourself. Promise yourself rewards for getting work done. When I finish this paragraph, I can have another cup of coffee.

You wouldn’t believe how many people I meet who tell me they have a great idea for a book-if only they had the time to write it!

We all have excuses and circumstances that get in our way. However, ask yourself what is important to you and your business? If the commitment is important enough to you, you will make the time.
