How Do You Become an Influential Leader?

During my career as an employee of a large corporation, we discussed attaining influence without authority. Traditionally, influence and authority came with title, power and “ruling with an iron fist.” Today, influence is recognized as an important quality of any leader. It doesn’t mean force.

How does leadership and influence factor into a small business? Building influence can be a key to attracting customers, employees and business partners. Attracting the right people to your business can result in more profit.

Marketing and Sales: A Love Story

Are you in love with your business? How about your clients? Your team?

Most entrepreneurs are deeply creative beings who long to serve others. Business requires us to constantly expand in areas that we don’t always love, like “marketing,” “conversions,” and, the dreaded, “sales.”

The way I see it, business is a love relationship. Our clients give us the opportunity to earn a living by serving them. Of course we love them. We just aren’t always clear about how to reach them.

Good marketing means:

  • Knowing who your ideal client is and not allowing yourself to spend time with people you are not here to help
  • Listening to your clients’ needs so you know exactly what they are struggling with
  • Letting your potential clients know that you are committed to partnering with them to generously create solutions together

If your marketing is done well and you establish caring relationships with your ideal clients, the sales will literally close themselves.

Your job is to provide solutions to problems. In the sales process, you only get to the solution when you have earned somebody’s trust. To earn that trust you must do a little warmup; a little marketing.

When you focus on solving another person’s problem in a unique way, marketing and sales become a joyful dance you welcome each day in your business.

Get Your Financial Systems Together

As a women business owner, it is important to leverage your business for less worry and more ease.

To do that, it is necessary to develop and maintain financial systems that give you confidence in your financial stability while having funds for your lifestyle and allowing you to leave a financial legacy that is meaningful to those you love.

If this sounds good to you, follow these steps to get started:

Be Clear: Being unclear keeps you stuck. There is no payoff for that. Clarity sparks action to do the right things in the right order at the right time. Get clear on your income, your expenses, what your goals are and, of course, write them down.

Be Resilient: Develop resilience by overcoming big setbacks and navigating the daily distractions, disappointments and doubts you encounter when you don’t get the financial results you expected. Know that there will be setbacks in your business. Plan for them. Have more credit than you need and always have reserves.

Be Courageous: Talking about finances with your business or life partner can be uncomfortable. Heck, sometimes talking to your accountant can be a little daunting. Be willing to be uncomfortable, ask a lot of questions, ask for what you need and get whatever support you need to achieve your goals.

Be Practical: Simon Sinek says, “It’s the magical partnership of the person with their head in the clouds and the person with their feet on the ground that creates progress.” Make sure you have a financial coach, consultant or partner to assist you in getting all your financial systems in place to thrive each day in your business. Get partners who champion your success.

You have so many talents to share. Follow these steps to ensure that you can continue to bring your gifts as long as you like.

Build Your Influence to Increase Your Impact

“Having influence is not about elevating self, but about lifting others.” –Sheri Dew

Imagine yourself having massive influence in the world. You are now not only reaching many more people, you are also impacting them-touching, moving and inspiring them in some way to create transformation in themselves, their businesses, and their lives.

Get Busy to Eliminate Your Fear

Fear is the emotion that often keeps us from taking action, making changes and clearing up situations in our life and business. Fear comes from not knowing if the action we want to take is the right action or the one that will work. We also are not sure if taking this action will result in some loss. We could lose some money, some aspect of our reputation, some self confidence. These concerns, while possible, are not always probable—we will not know the truth until we take the action.

Are you afraid to ask a potential client to work with you for fear she will reject you by saying no? Are you afraid to ask a vendor you do a lot of business with for a discount for fear they will get upset? Are you afraid to give a speech, or record a Facebook Live, for fear of what other people might think?

All feelings are valid, and they are only feelings. Feel the fear, and take action anyway. Every time we do not take action because of fear, we diminish our personal power because the desire to take action continues to gnaw at us. What have you not been doing because of the emotions that accompany it? What would it serve you to do it anyway?

You have massive value to bring. The more you take action, the more you get to share your massive value and the less that will be scary, then pretty soon you will do it all with ease. What is it time to take action on?

15 Minutes — The Difference Between Organized and Overwhelm

I believe we can all agree that time is one of our most precious commodities. Some talk about wasting time or managing time. I like to look at
it as how do we get to create the best time for us. For what is wasting time to some may be the perfect experience of time for others. That’s where priorities come in.

Write Your Book This Year

I am excited about all the topics and information that I can share with you. I look forward to sharing my article with you every other month, and I want you to be excited and look forward to reading it as well!

As we welcome the New Year, I’d like to start with an invitation for you “To Write Your Book This Year.” You know the one. The one that you have been thinking about forever. Stop talking about it and just sit down and write it. Here are eight simple tips to get you started:

  1. Just write. Fix it later. That means do not worry about anything, just write!
  2. Make it a habit. Carve out an hour or two early in the morning before the rest of the house gets up, or before you go to work.
  3. Writing is a job. Treat it like one, it’s not a hobby; it is work.
  4. Be ruthless in managing your time. Use thirty-minute or one-hour intervals during which you may not do anything but write.
  5. No checking email! It interrupts our attention span and fragments our concentration.
  6. Set interim goals. Write 1,000 words a day or a specific amount each day.
  7. Work toward a deadline. Everyone needs deadlines- self-imposed or by others.
  8. Reward yourself. Promise yourself rewards for getting work done. When I finish this paragraph, I can have another cup of coffee.

You wouldn’t believe how many people I meet who tell me they have a great idea for a book-if only they had the time to write it!

We all have excuses and circumstances that get in our way. However, ask yourself what is important to you and your business? If the commitment is important enough to you, you will make the time.
