Are You Flourishing?

kims-mini-retreat

Last Saturday, I held a “Live In-person Mini-retreat” for some of my Flourishing 50s members in the L.A. area. It was an extra special time because I don’t get to see them face-to-face very often. As a virtual coach, all my services are conducted over the phone or online, which is great because I get to work with women all over the country, but I don’t get to “see” them. So, I considered this a very special time with some clients who were within driving distance.

We had a great time. There was a ton of sharing and discussing and I led the ladies through a few exercises. One in particular was to rate themselves (Poor, Okay, Good, and Flourishing) on 15 aspects of Flourishing.

Here were the 15 so you can do the same for yourself:

Physical Health – How is your Sleep, Food, Mood, and Exercise (as a whole)?

Time freedom – Do you have time on a regular basis to do whatever you want?

Balance – Do you have a balance of giving and receiving in your life?

Financial health – Do you have enough money for everything you need and want?

Work environment – How is your work culture?

Home (physical space) – How does your home look and feel to you?

Inner/Spiritual self – How is the quality of your inner/spiritual practice?

Fun/Adventure – Are you having fun and experiencing adventure in your life?

Primary family relationships – How are your relationships with those closest to you (i.e. spouse, parents, children, etc.)?

Social/Circle of Genius – How is the quality of your social circle (i.e. friends, mentors, coaches, colleagues, etc.)?

Relaxation/Rejuvenation/Recovery – Are you making enough time for relaxation, rejuvenation, and recovery?

Flow – Are you “losing yourself” (in a good way) in something you enjoy (i.e. hobby, skill, creative interest, etc.)?

Personal development – Are you regularly working on your inner self (i.e. reading, journaling, “Blue Sky” time)?

Professional development – Are you continually improving your professional skills (i.e. reading, learning, various skills applicable to your work, growing your network)?

Purpose/Meaning/Accomplishment – Are you moving toward something bigger than yourself?

PUT AN “X” WHERE YOU FEEL YOU ARE TODAY:

POOR

OKAY

GOOD

FLOURISHING

Physical Health-

Time Freedom-

Balance-

Financial Health-

Work Environment-

Home (physical space)-

Inner/Spiritual Self-

Fun/Adventure-

Primary Family Relationships-

Social/Circle of Genius-

Relaxation/Rejuvenation/Recovery-

Flow-

Personal Development-

Professional Development-

Purpose/Meaning/Accomplishment-

Then, I gave them two circles. The first circle was “Where I am today” and the second circle was “Where I want to be”. I gave them some colored pencils and they made a pie chart based on the results above. This exercise gave them a visual of the “gap” between where they are today and where they want to be.

My role as a coach in my members and clients lives is to close that gap so that they can live healthy and happy lives that are in alignment with their values.

I encourage you today to also do this exercise. Rate yourself in each of those areas of Flourishing and then draw two circles that represent where you are now and where you want to be. Use different colors that represent the areas that are in the Poor, Okay, Good, and Flourishing categories.

What is the size of the “gap” between where you are now and where you want to be?

I want to also add that perhaps you’re hesitant to do this exercise because you’re afraid that your “gap” might be overwhelmingly big. If so, I want to encourage you to do it anyway because if you do, then you can do something about it. So, if you really want to live a Flourishing life as a woman entrepreneur, you’ll do this exercise. It’s sort of like going to the doctor and getting a blood test. We put it off because we may get results we don’t want to know, but as cliché as it is, I’m going to say it – “Knowledge is power”.

If you truly want to live your healthiest and most fulfilling life as a woman entrepreneur, don’t put it off any longer. This exercise is simply information. After that, you can CHOOSE to do something about it or not, but at least you know. In fact, if you do put it off (like blood work), it’s not like you’ll never find out the results – oh you will at some point – whether it be through illness or something else. The same is true for examining your life. Your fifties are the BEST time to do this examination and I do hope you choose to do it.

Feel free to email me personally and let me know your results. Don’t worry if you’re not proud of them. Think of me like your doctor. I do this day in and day out. There’s rarely anything I haven’t seen before. Let’s just say you won’t shock me, but by sending me your results, it tells me that you’re serious about your life and well-being and you know what? That’s encouraging to me to know that this exercise helped bring some awareness to you. So please, share with me your results: kim@transformationwellnessforwomen.com

7 Tips for Enhancing Your Intuition

7 Tips for Enhancing Your Intuition

Hey goddess- Are you tapping into your intuition?

enhance your intuition

Why do some of us seem to have better intuition than others? Perhaps you believe that you lack intuition all together. Your mind is constantly giving you feedback. You’re either not receiving the message or you’re misinterpreting the signs because trust me, you will ALWAYS get an answer. When you’re uncertain about how to proceed, your intuition can provide valuable feedback if you take the time to tune in and listen to what it has to say.

It’s a mistake to only rely on logic when you have other tools at your disposal. Give your intuition a chance.

Learn to cultivate and use your intuition:

  1. Practice addressing and listening to your intuition. You probably already do this, just not at a sufficient level. When faced with multiple possibilities, give your intuition a chance to chime in. Start with little things. “Should I go to the movie with Sally or stay at home?” Ask yourself these types of questions as they come up in your life and notice the response you receive.
  2. Notice how your intuition communicates with you. It might be in the form of a verbal response. In many cases, you’ll get a feeling in your body that might take the form of a feeling in your stomach, chest, or head. It could reveal itself as a sense of calmness, knowing, or anxiety. You already experience these types of feelings. When faced with something you fear, your intuition is speaking to you. You already know how that feels. You also know when something feels “right.”
  3. Follow your intuition blindly in trivial matters. Show your intuition that you’re willing to listen. When faced with non-pressing matters, such as whether to have a cup of coffee or tea, just do what your intuition tells you. You might go for a joy ride and allow your intuition to choose all the turns. Pay attention to where you end up!
  4. Meditation helps. Your intuition might be talking to you, but you’re not getting the message. With everything else going on in your head, you might not even notice that your intuition is trying to communicate with you. Meditation can quiet the mind enough to notice what your intuition is saying.
  5. Spend time in a new environment. Your thoughts and feelings become habits that are partially dependent on your surroundings. You tend to think and feel a certain way at home. The same goes for work. Give your intuition room to maneuver by spending time someplace out of the ordinary for you. Time at the library, park, or coffee shop might open the lines of communication.
  6. Do something that engages your mind at a low level. Have you ever noticed that many of your best ideas come while taking a shower, driving down the highway, or coloring? It’s because your mind is partially occupied. You have to pay attention to what you’re doing, but your mind isn’t so engaged that it can’t wander a bit.
  7. Keep track of your results. In general, is your intuition providing helpful and accurate feedback? Notice the situations where the results are positive and those that are negative. You’ll be able to trust your intuition in more areas of your life over time.

It’s important to understand that your intuition is flawed. It’s flawed because of your fears and misconceptions. For example, you’ll never get a good vibe about spending time with someone new if you have social anxiety issues.

However, you already know a lot of things. And you already have a lot of life experience. The vast wisdom resulting from those two things is locked inside of you. Your intuition uses that information to guide you – if you’ll listen.

8 empowering beliefs to increase happiness

8 Empowering Beliefs to increase your happiness

Your experiences are shaped by your thinking. By adopting some of the beliefs below you can empower yourself to be happy. Even obstacles have a value when you can see it. You can develop convictions that will help you to feel happier and achieve more, regardless of the situation.

I am blessed

I am blessed

Consider these empowering beliefs that you can start using today to transform your life through the power of positive thinking.

  1. I understand my potential. You can achieve amazing results when you put your mind to it. Feel excited about reaching your true potential. I hereby grant you permission to let yourself be ALL that you can be.
  2. I count my blessings. List each thing that you have to be grateful for. Remember to include the smaller items, like warm socks, instagram or tart cranberriesExpressing your appreciation reminds you of how rich you are. I think you can find more of these each day if you put your attention on it,
  3. I learn from mistakes. You can make setbacks work for you by focusing on the lessons that they contain. Flubbing one job interview can teach you how to ace the next one. As a performing artist I cannot get upset over one word I forgot at the last concert. My mastery come in the form of how resilient I am and how well I recover.
  4. I find meaning in adversity. Tough times can be the most rewarding phase of your life. Know that you can emerge from any challenge with greater wisdom and courage. I hate to say it but that old adage of “that which does not kill you makes you stronger” has a tiny bit of truth to it! Look back at the obstacles you’ve already overcome, and reassure yourself that you can handle what’s ahead.
  5. I embrace change. Accept that life is a series of changes. Focus on the present moment, and prepare yourself to adapt to whatever circumstances come your way. If all else fails… practice this mantra: “change is good, change is good, change is good!”
  6. I dream big. Expand your wish list. Do not play small if you want big results. Setting demanding but attainable goals gives you adventures to look forward to each day.
  7. I practice forgiveness. Lighten your load by clearing away any resentment you’re holding onto from the past. Set reasonable boundaries while you respond with compassion when others disappoint you. While you are at it, Pardon yourself too. If you are like me you can be pretty rough on yourself at times and while that fuels you to get better you do want to temper it with a some of that golden compassion you tend to grant others.
  8. I give generously. Sharing your blessings makes you more powerful and joyful. Volunteer in your community and speak kindly to each person you meet today. Buy coffee for your co-workers or give your receptionist a flower.

Dream big and stay positive. You can achieve all of the goals you set out to achieve.

Harness Your Energy to Do Less and Make More Money

jenenne-article-5-pic

Do less? Yeah, right. That sounds like one of those spiritual practices that don’t take into account just how much you have to do!

Actually, there is an 80/20 rule that allows you to do less, earn more and dominate in your industry. The rule says that 80 percent of your results come from 20 percent of your efforts, and vice versa.

What’s Better: A Standing Desk or Sitting?

mid-life-happiness

Because I’m a wellness coach, I get asked the question often: “Kim, what’s better, a standing desk or sitting?”

I may surprise you with this answer, but it’s neither. You may be thinking, “Well then, what’s the best way to work?”

I believe that the best way to work is the best way YOU work. By “best” I mean doing your best quality work. Work that you’re most proud of.

My workdays primarily consist of writing, reading, and coaching my clients over the phone. I’ve learned:

I write and coach best sitting down.

I read best standing up (if it’s Kindle) or while doing cardio (audio books/podcasts)

I also often have calls with my mentor, fellow coaches, and women entrepreneurs. I do these best standing up.

Again, the best way to work is the best way YOU work. Think about how you work best:

Do you get your best writing done sitting or standing?

What about coaching your clients?

What about reading for personal and professional development?

As coaches and entrepreneurs, it’s important for us to do our best work, period. However you do that is based on your own experience:

Maybe you work best doing everything at your standing desk – great!

Maybe you work best sitting – great!

Regardless, don’t overdo either. Mix it up. It’s good for your health.

Speaking of health, I know many women entrepreneurs think a standing desk is better for their health, so they stand while they work, even if that’s not how they do their best work.

Remember, what’s most important is that you do your best work. If that means you sit, then sit. But don’t stay seated. Mix up your day so that you get up and down (that goes for you “standers” as well).

What’s more, it’s essential that you build physical activity into your daily routine because the best health benefit you’ll get in a day is not at your standing desk; rather it’s through intentional physical activity. In other words, don’t replace physical activity/exercise with your standing desk (or even your treadmill desk!).

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Make a list of all your daily work tasks.

Step 2: Do you do them better sitting or standing?

Step 3: Make the appropriate adjustments.

Then, share your findings with me. I’d love to hear how YOU work best!

Choose Bliss: The new paradigm in Business.

Choose Bliss: New Book Proves a Life of Enduring Joy & Contentment *IS* Possible. It’s a Paradigm Changer Critics Hail “Authentic & Powerful”

Masterfully crafted from the life, experiences and wisdom of Moneeka Sawyer, ‘Choose Bliss: The Power and Practice of Joy and Contentment’ empowers readers to embrace the fact that bliss isn’t circumstantial, but is rather a constant state of being that anyone can thrive in. Through both deeply-personal vignettes and a host of practical exercises, Sawyer walks readers through learning how to never settle for “just good enough” and how creating true power and prosperity can be as easy as a few simple mindset shifts…

Mountain View, CA – Those who know Moneeka Sawyer often regard her as one of the happiest, most joyous and positive people they’ve ever met. It’s far from a front; Sawyer is truly blissful at all times and feels totally in control of every decision she makes.

It’s a unique yet totally transformative state of mind underpinned by a series of foundational “bliss practices” that anyone can deploy. In her new book, Sawyer explains how you too can be as happy and content as she is.

‘Choose Bliss: The Power and Practice of Joy and Contentment’ will leave readers reveling in their new life steeped with opportunity, positivity and bliss that goes far and beyond being a buzzword. It’s a book about the power to choose, and how these choices can easily create a reality more blissful than anyone believed possible.

Book Synopsis:

This book is about your power to choose. It is a paradigm changer that will transform your view of your life, the world around you, and what is truly possible. Filled with thought-provoking concepts, it will teach you simple bliss practices you can implement immediately and short exercises to integrate bliss into your life forever. The tools in this book have proven successful time and time again. So, from this day forward, you don’t have to settle for good enough.

“The issue is that most people fall into a state of complacency, creating a vicious circle where they live robotically and become frustrated when they’re seldom happy,” explains Sawyer. “My book and my entire philosophy will amplify anyone’s inner light and rekindle the love in their heart. After all, don’t we all deserve to live surrounded by bliss? Feeling happy, strong and free is so empowering that it’s almost hard to put into words. This book will help anyone identify the mental, physical and spiritual adversity that’s holding them back and then inspire them to emerge victorious into a life they have only ever dreamed of.”

Continuing, “I want people to remember that they have a choice about every single thought, movement and action they make in life. When you understand how to make each of these decisions with a continuing life of bliss as the goal, amazing things begin to happen. Just ask the people I’ve helped who have proven first-hand that my methods are rock-solid and proven.”

Since its release, the book has garnered a consistent string of five-star reviews. For example, H. Blanchard comments, “I’ve read a lot of self-help books and this one feels different – more authentic – because Moneeka shares her own life journey and how she overcame problems in a way that I could relate to. The main thing I will take away is that changes are not linear and you don’t have to take action A, then B, then C etc. you can have bliss now even though you haven’t worked your way through to Z yet. I also found that as I read she left cues for the forthcoming chapters that my subconscious started working on so that when I got to the chapter on that subject e.g. Gratitude, I had already started working it into my daily routine naturally.”

James R. Cichoracki adds, “Moneeka’s insights and her compelling stories (from her challenging childhood where she was relentlessly bullied to her hard choice a few years ago to not become a mother) demonstrate how deeply devoted she is to the amazing principles of choosing bliss no matter what her circumstances. I found myself underlining and making notes of things I want to incorporate into my life to live the joy-filled life that Moneeka clearly embodies every day. This book is full of gems!”

The Bank Account Most Women Entrepreneurs Are Neglecting

35001455 - close up of female hands making online payment

We only have so much time, money, and energy. The problem I see with many women entrepreneurs is that most of those precious resources are used to get more clients and grow their bank account through investing in sales, marketing, and social media courses and coaches, while way less of those resources are used on the health side – taking care of their bodies through proper nutrition, hydration, sleep, mental rest, and physical activity.

On a daily basis, I work with women in midlife who have been taking care of everyone else most of their lives and they reach their fifties and wonder what happened to their bodies, when and how did they gain all this weight?

The answer is usually because while taking care of other’s needs, they have putting their own needs on the backburner for far too long.

I find the same being true for most women entrepreneurs, especially in midlife. Many that I meet have worked a corporate job for 30 years and hated it. When they hit midlife, they wanted to start a business and do something they really love – something that will make a difference in people’s lives.

While I love this change of career and newfound purpose, what I often see is the same thing happening – they use their new career to help others, while neglecting to take proper care of their own selves.

Do we women entrepreneurs need to spend our time, money, and energy learning how to build our businesses using marketing, sales, and social media? Absolutely! We need to know these things in order to build our businesses, right? But, the key question is, “At what cost?”

When was the last time you invested your time, money, and energy in a wellness coach?

A wellness coach, like myself, takes a holistic approach to helping you create lifestyle changes such as work/life balance, decreasing stress, increasing the quality of your sleep and nutrition, and most importantly, what this healthy lifestyle leads to is a longer life, which means doing your thing and serving your people for many, many more years, which leads to more money in your bank account.

What I’m suggesting is not that you stop investing in business courses and coaches, but that that you look ahead and use your wisdom to invest in the next 30+ years of your life.

Health must be at the top of your list, especially as a women entrepreneur. While money can buy a lot of things, it cannot buy you your health back. Your health must be earned over time and the time to start is always right now.

If you continued on today, business as usual, what would your health look like in 30 years?

Can you make a few small investments in your health bank account that will compound over time?

Trust that investing your time, money, and energy in your health and self-care will pay you the biggest interest over time.

There are two great ways to start:

  1. Download my free guide – “5 Steps to Becoming a Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise Woman Entrepreneur in Your 50s” here: http://www.transformationwellnessforwomen.com/healthy-wealthy-wise/
  2. Join my free Facebook group – “Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise Women Entrepreneurs in Midlife with Kim Acedo” here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/healthywealthyandwisewomenentrepreneurs/

Remember, serve your people, but also serve yourself. Over time, you will find that both your money bank account as well as your health bank account will overflow. Isn’t that what you want for you? And isn’t that what you want for your clients?

Be the change. Set the example. Inspire your clients through your healthy way of life.

How Thriving Health Builds the “Know, Like, and Trust” Factor

Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise 1

It’s Business 101: people have to know, like, and trust you before they choose to do any kind of business with you. Whether you are looking to get more clients or collaborate with like-minded entrepreneurs on a business venture, those you seek to bring on board in some way must, again, know, like, and trust you.

There is one thing that you must have in order for people to know, like, and trust you and that one thing is confidence. You must not only have confidence in your product or service, but you also must have confidence in yourself – how you walk into a room, how you show up on stage, how you present yourself over the phone, and so on.

The best way to increase your confidence, and therefore the “know, like, and trust factor” is to live a vibrantly healthy life. When you have thriving health, you have more energy. You smile more. You carry yourself with pride. You present on stage with poise and dignity. You present your offers with certainty. You get more clients. More people want to do business with you. More people want to collaborate with you. When you look and feel well, you put your best foot forward each day.

You represent your brand – what your brand stands for. When you’re confident in how you present yourself to your prospects, you will grow your business and help more people through your products or services. Living a healthy life is a choice. When it comes to the “know, like, and trust factor”, it’s not just a health choice; it’s a business choice.

Doing Things Just for Me

Precious Time Concept ClockThe question we have been asking ourselves in this column is “How will I know when I have enough?” We have talked about things like How will I know when I have enough stuff? . . .eaten enough food? . . .had enough to drink? . . .have enough things to do? . . .or any other things that are important to you. This month we will look at something that many of my women coaching clients bring to their sessions.
