Living Your Life with Ease

Live your life in gratitude and with ease. We all have experienced struggle and pain. When I survived a near-fatal car accident in 2002, I learned that life is not always easy. Your mindset creates the experience you live. Choose to be in abundance and happiness, rather than in victim mode or negativity.

Complaining about what is wrong in the world helps no one. You feel better, happier and more successful when you notice what is working instead of what isn’t, what is right rather than what is wrong, and what you want rather than what you don’t. This is the law of attraction at work.

Create more ease and flow in your life with these practices:

Create and consistently update a “to do” list. Outline and prioritize your list based on what you want personally, professionally and physically. Schedule time to do them.

Ask for help. Know your “A” team of supporters and enlist them for help. You may want to hire a business coach or a personal trainer.

Create time for selfcareWhat do your mind and body need? What does your ideal health look like? Plan daily steps to optimize your energy and wellbeing.

Stay healthy. Movement and good nutrition will create a better life as you age.

Focus on gratitude. This practice brings more ease and joy into your life.

Pay attention to what you want and WHY. Get clear with the WHY to design a more meaningful and happy life.

You can live to the fullest when you are clear about what you want to do. Career success allows you freedom of choice. When your choices are made with ease and flow, you know you are heading toward a meaningful and happy life.

How Giving Causes Growing

We tend to think that we’ll make a difference when we “get there.” This doesn’t work, since the giving actually causes the growing. If you wait until you get there, you never actually get there.

The same feeling of tightness that occurs for you when you are stretching to give $10 from your $100, stays with you when you are giving $100 of your $1,000. I can’t say what it is to give millions yet, but I can tell you that in the process of giving tens of thousands, it’s the same game with more zeroes.

Something happens when you stretch. The universe hates a void, and new opportunities present themselves to you. Not like winning the lottery, but more likely new opportunities to grow and expand your business that were not apparent before.

How do you get there? One step at a time.

The best tool I’ve found to support with the stretching and growing is gratitude. It’s easy to take for granted what you have. Electricity, hot, running water, flushing toilets. These simple gifts are actually luxuries in much of the world.

The way to continue to stretch is to stay in gratitude for what you have. You always get more of what you focus on. If you focus on lack, you get more lack. Why not celebrate your gifts and watch them grow and expand?

As you expand and remember who you are and how blessed you are, it becomes easier to adopt the habit of giving. Not easy, but easier.

I invite you to consider automating your giving. Start small-$5 per week, $20 per month, adds up to several hundred dollars per year. You may be educating a child or funding a fellow business woman’s dream in a developing nation by taking these small actions.

The Power of Relationships

When you are a member of a team, each relationship is unique. Some focus on the job at hand, and some are based on the connection you have with each member.

When I was 9 years old, my parents had me join a military-style marching band called the Weldonians. It was here I learned the value of relationships and the power it generated to the whole team.

I was a member of the majorette corps. The entire band was made up of 150+ kids ranging in age from 3 to 23. We won as a unit and lost as a unit. As a member of this band, it was the responsibility for the older kids to look after the younger kids. We learned to have the backs of our neighbors. Practices were a weekend affair, with practice all day Saturday and half a day Sunday and a performance every Sunday afternoon.

Crisp straight lines, intricate formations, great music and high-stepping majorettes were all part of the entertainment package. The tight relationships we formed helped us support each other in performing the best we could.

It is through those relationships we were able as a unit to win awards; perform as the half-time entertainment for the Oakland Raiders a couple of times a month for home games; receive invitations to perform in the Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco; and perform at the Rose Bowl and in the Rose Parade.

The power of relationships channeled into one direction was amazing to participate in during the time I was a member of the Weldonians. I will never forget the relationships and the feeling of knowing someone had my back.

Understand that as a part of the whole, you are able to accomplish something so much bigger than you could do on your own!

Closing the Loop to Build the Life You Love

Healthy relationships are a vital component of creating a life of harmony and accomplishment-your SpaLife

Most of us know this intuitively but science confirms it-there is compelling evidence that strong, harmonious relationships contribute to a long, healthy and happy life. Relationships bring harmony and balance to our work and personal lives. Contrast that with relational discord – which leaves us drained and vulnerable physically, spiritually and emotionally.

To create the life you were meant for, it’s essential to closely examine your relationships. Who are the people in your space? Who do you spend the most time with? Do they bring harmony or discord?

Sometimes a source of discord is what I call an “Open Loop.” It comes from leaving a frustration or issue unsaid. When there is an Open Loop, it’s may be time for a conversation.

How do you know if you have an Open Loop? Here are three tip-offs:

  1. Do you feel awkward around someone in your life? Do you find yourself avoiding her?
  2. Have you lost affinity for her? Is there a loss of connection?
  3. Are you angry at someone? Do you blame her for something going on in your life?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, you probably have an Open Loop. Whether at work or home, it’s important to close that loop. Leaving it open doesn’t support your best life.

You need to get back on track so you can have a life with balance that supports your dreams. Closing the Loop will mean taking the risk to get face-to-face (no texting!) with this person.

Look her in the eye, connect, let her hear the intonation in your voice, and let her see your facial expressions and body language.

Communicating openly and honestly lets you live your life with integrity. Recognizing when you have relationship Open Loops and closing them will help you live your SpaLife!

Build Up Your Ability to Bounce Back From Setbacks

“Life is what happens to you when you’re making other plans.” Betty Talmadge, American meat broker and cookbook author, is the first one who is credited with this adage. Setbacks happen in business and in life.

By building up your resilience – your bounce-back ability – you will know how to get back up after you have been knocked down. Follow these principles to soar through setbacks and keep your resilience revved up.

Use Your Power of Choice. Begin to look at how resilient you are in everyday occurrences. Do you let traffic, a delayed plane, or a disappointing phone call ruin your whole day, or do you consciously choose to bounce right back? We always have a choice about how we react to what happens.

Build on Past Successes. At first your setback might seem too much to handle. To help yourself bounce back, think about other challenges you have faced in your life and business in the past. Remember how you dealt with them, and how you came through those challenges. Remind yourself of all you have dealt with – and yet you persevered. This will fuel your ability to overcome this setback.

Look for the Lesson. Setbacks serve. They bring with them lessons about you, about your leadership, about your business. When a setback erupts in your path, before dowsing the flames you should first examine its lesson. Learning the lessons that your setbacks deliver is one of the ways you build your resilience.

To your resilience!

Stop Struggling and Start Soaring in Your Business

Running a business can often be full of struggle. We struggle to find time to meet deadlines, to plan, to get to bed at a decent hour – we even struggle to find time for ourselves. Get ready for a revelation: we create most of the struggle in our lives. We all have different “Struggle Strategies” that we unknowingly use in our lives and businesses that might be making things more difficult. Take a look at some of the different Struggle Strategies below. Choose which one is making things harder on you and make a change.

Timing – One of the biggest causes of struggle in our lives is that we want what we want when we want it. Things do not always come in the time frame we prefer, but stay focused on what you want and keep working at it. Remember the old adage – better late than never!

Expectations – We often expect ourselves and others to get so much done—so quickly, or to complete everything perfectly. Recognize that you and everyone else may make mistakes and that other people will not always do things the way you would do them. Know that the world will not always act according to your predetermined script – embrace this idea and you will be a lot happier every day.

No Fun – Sure, you might take a vacation or two throughout the year. But that is not enough. Life is a lot better when you are having some fun every day. Find a short period of time daily to have a great time – have lunch by the lake, spend twenty minutes with your favorite novel, enjoy a dance around your living room. Enjoy yourself. If you don’t, no one else will.

Envy – You will turn green thinking about what everyone else has, how easy they seem to have come by it, or how everything just seems to fall into their lap. When you see all the success and prosperity in other people’s lives, take it as an affirmation that the world is abundant and there are plenty of good things coming your way. Then put your attention back on your life and creating what you want.

Recognize which Struggle Strategy you are currently using and replace it with strategies that support you to soar.

To your soaring success!
