Listening to what people want. How they want to live. How I can help them achieve their vision.

If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be? That things take longer than planned and that patience and perseverance is the key. Never give up! It will happen.

Jaya King is our Thriving Woman of the Week

Jaya King is a professional artist, instructor, and inspiration. Her enthusiasm for painting is infectious and it propels her students, as well as herself, down a path of inspiration and understanding through creation. Learn more at www.jayasart.com

How long have you been in business? From a very young age I knew I was put on this planet to be an artist. I grew up with a crystal clear vision of what I was going to do. I officially began showing, demonstrating and teaching my art throughout the Bay Area in 2003. Art is my life, however I never thought of my art as a “business.” In the last 5 years I have embraced the CEO mindset and am now running my life’s purpose as a thriving business.

Why did you begin your business? When I show my art the question that always comes up is “Do you teach?” Teaching came naturally and after each class students would ask, “What’s next?” and before I knew it I had a full schedule of classes and workshops. It took me a while to realize that this was actually MY BUSINESS! Once it dawned on me, I began to run it like a business.

What is your mission for your business? My mission is to transform the world by inspiring creativity and fearlessness in my community.

If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be? As an artist I am versatile in many mediums. In the beginning I wish I had focused my energy on one particular style to build up a strong, consistent body of work.

What is a guiding principle that you use in your business? My art is a reflection of me. I only put my best work out there and I stand behind my prices because I am worth it. If you are open to learning, I will teach you.

What makes you a thriving woman in business? I am a force. I paint with purpose. When I create, I am thinking of what the whole series will look like on a gallery wall. When I teach, I bring my personality to the classroom. I make sure to encourage each person sitting in front of me. My students gain more than the knowledge of how to paint, they gain confidence and this is why they keep coming back.

What do you love about being a thriving woman in business?  It is important for me to embody artistic freedom and empowerment. I take the term “working artist” to the next level: I love being a role model for my students. I want them to see what is possible and that they can live their dream.

What is the next big thing or dream for you in your business? I will have the most amazing studio/gallery space where I can paint BIG! The space itself will be 2,500 square feet with ample parking. I will have a classroom where I can teach up to 8 students. The gallery will be beautifully lit with natural light where my art can be seen from the street. This is going to be a state-of-the-art space where inspiration and creativity flows without boundaries!

Kathleen Mulligan is our Thriving Woman of the Week

Kathleen Mulligan is a fierce advocate and champion for women who are ready to own their unique value and brilliance. She brings over a decade of high-level, solution-focused transformational coaching and multiple modality expertise that support women in upleveling their level of self-confidence, so they feel fabulous about standing out in their world – boldly, bravely and with pride. Learn more at KathleenMulligan.com

How long have you been in business? Coaching and consulting amazing women for over 10 years – entrepreneur for over 30.

Why did you begin your business? About 17 years ago I experienced an intense physical and emotional ‘crashed and burned’ which led me on a long healing journey. I moved to Mexico and spent years as well as over $50,000 studying and becoming certified in a multitude of high-level, holistic Wellness and Transformational programs. My intention was to heal and recreate a new life while supporting others to do the same.

When I returned to the United States after living abroad for 13 years, my work shifted. I began meeting so many bright and talented women who were quietly (often secretly) suffering from an unsustainable speed of life and the same pressures and overwhelms that had crashed my life over a decade earlier.

It wasn’t until then – that I realized how dramatically I had changed. I had become a woman who had ‘learned’ how to deeply respect, honor, and even celebrate herself and I wanted other women to feel that same sense of self-confidence and self-celebration. I wanted women to learn how to feel fabulous in their own skin – to breakthrough their limiting beliefs so they could break free to create the personal and professional success and fulfillment they deserved.

This is my passion, and I’m also privileged to call it my work.

What is your mission for your business? To help each woman cultivate a powerful personal presence – one that is grounded in self-confidence and high self-value. To teach each woman to see herself through new eyes – eyes that learn to marvel at her own magnificence and uniqueness. To support each woman to live into her fullness – boldly.

If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be? That I didn’t have to build my business using everyone else’s blueprint for success. That I could instead – craft my business to feel luscious, spacious and joyful for both my clients and me. Happy to have finally gotten here.

What is a guiding principle that you use in your business? Integrity. Service. Witnessing/Affirming others. Bowing in humility and deep gratitude for the privilege of working with the amazing women I do.

What makes you a thriving woman in business? My fierce dedication and unabashed passion (those who know me – know I cry just talking about it) in support of women stepping into the fullness and brilliance of who they are.

What do you love about being a thriving woman in business?  Being part of a community of SiStars who are here to create powerful and positive impact in our world.

What is the next big thing or dream for you in your business? Luscious ‘Reboot Your Bliss Retreats’ in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and the Northern California Wine Country.

What makes you a thriving woman in business? Attitude. Compassion. Skill.

Tracy Lynne Principi is a psychic business coach for spiritual entrepreneurs who are struggling with limiting beliefs around money and self-worth, who instead want to get off the hamster wheel and create a soul-aligned money-making biz they love! She is the owner of Healing All Beings.

How long have you been in business? I’ve been in business about a year.

Why did you begin your business? I started my business because I want to teach others how to thrive in their business and step out into their power and purpose without the fear and doubt that keeps so many from ever obtaining success.

What is your mission for your business? My mission is to empower women to harness their own power and strength and see beyond the self limits, of fear, doubt, judgement, self confidence and being visible.

If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be? The time and commitment it takes and to constantly work on my mindset daily.

What is a guiding principle that you use in your business?  Authenticity, trust and honesty.

Peri Gabriel is our Thriving Woman of the Week

Peri Gabriel has been self-employed for over two decades. Her newest venture is her wine and painting studio, Pinot’s Palette Alameda. She is married to her best friend, Sean, and has two daughters and a seven-year-old granddaughter. She’s a 5th generation native Californian.

How long have you been in business? I have been an entrepreneur since 1996 when I started my book design company, Knockout Design. After 19 years of designing books, my husband, Sean, and I embarked on a new adventure as owners of a paint and wine studio. The studio opened in South Shore Center, Alameda in August 2015.

What is your mission for your business? To bring art to the masses, in a fun and upscale environment with exceptional customer service. We Paint, Drink and Have Fun!

If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be? How difficult it is to find and keep good employees even when paying a good wage.

What is a guiding principle that you use in your business?  Put yourself in the other person’s shoes. Whether it is a guest, employee or just someone I meet, I try to see things from their point of view.

What makes you a thriving woman in business? Working smarter instead of harder. It is a constant struggle to maintain balance in life, but so very important. One of the guiding principles I attempt to put into practical use daily.

What do you love about being a thriving woman in business? I do love being the creator of my own destiny. This can be a very scary thing. I truly cannot remember what it is like to work FOR someone else as an employee, as it has been too many years. Being your own boss is not cut out for everyone. It takes a lot of drive, devotion, discipline, and a very large leap of faith in yourself. I especially love meeting other women who have put themselves out there and taken that leap.

What is the next big thing or dream for you in your business? To do less day to day operations and more interaction with community. We want to expand the business to larger off-site events for both fundraising as well as corporate events of 50+. While also increasing our daytime use of the studio for team buildings.
