Cool Ways to Use VIDEO to Promote Your eBook and Drive Reader Engagement

home officeIf you’re not camera shy, then using video is a really cool way to promote your new eBook. A great place to begin is by creating your own You Tube channel. This will really help you to develop and promote your overall brand as well as your eBook. All you need to do really is create and upload a few videos giving some basic tips or discuss some of the key messages about what you teach in your eBook.

A really great strategy to use here is to put your website name at the top of the description and the Amazon sales page link just under that and don’t forget to begin the links with http:// so that the viewer can get to either your website or your eBooks sales page directly by just clicking on the link.

Recording video these days is so easy and all your really need to do is just use the webcam on your computer, click record, and start talking. Here are a few ways you can use video to promote your new eBook:

CREATE a book trailer. This is an awesome tool to use both before and after the launch. The easiest way to do a video eBook trailer is to create a Power Point template and share the Table of Contents, talking through a few points for each chapter. You could also put together a 3-5 slide Power Point and make a recording of you taking your audience through either one chapter or even a high level overview of your whole eBook.

READ an entire chapter in your book to the audience. This is sort of like years ago when you went to the book store and the author was there doing a reading of their book. Now, with the wonders of technology, we’re no longer required to leave the house and drive to the book store. We can watch and listen to the author read their book to us in the comfort of our own homes, wearing our pj’s if we wanted to!

RECORD your own interview. Here, you’ll prepare a few really engaging and enticing questions, have a friend interview you using those questions, and record the interview. And if this is one book in a series, be sure to talk to the other books in the series as well AND any other writing projects you have in the works. Recording a video interview provides a sense of credibility and social proof for your viewers, and also helps them to see you in a more life-like manner. Once you have your recording ready, upload your videos on Facebook, Linked In, YouTube, and on your own website too.

If you really want to create viewer engagement and get them emotionally involved, I suggest using images, sound effects, and especially music. Really paint the story for them.

There are TONS of ways to use video to promote your eBook, you just need to get creative and keep an open mind.

  1. Get ideas! For my book I decided to think outside the infamous box and added video TO my book. I added QR codes (to the physical book) and links that when scanned or clicked played a video relating to information in that chapter.
