The Great American Ideal Client Search

One of my favorite children’s stories is “Are You My Mother?” by P.D. Eastman. In it, a newly hatched bird sets out to find his mother who has strayed from the nest. He doesn’t know what she looks like, so he asks everyone he meets, “Are you my mother?” He asks a kitten, a hen, a cow, and a dog. They each say “no.” He sees an old car, which can’t possibly be his mother, and in desperation, calls out to a passing boat and plane. At last convinced he has found her, he climbs onto the teeth of an enormous earth mover, which lets out a giant “SNORT!” in response to his “Are you my mother?” inquiry.

This is how many entrepreneurs are when trying to find clients. They have no idea who their ideal client is, so they work with anyone, often undercharging for their services and feeling deflated about how hard they have to work with so little gain.

The Great American Ideal Client Search

I am looking for ONE special client to work with for three months for *FREE.

To qualify, you must be:

  • a woman
  • a creative or “kitchen table” entrepreneur
  • in business for at least three to five years
  • someone who knows her business would benefit from PR, but doesn’t know what to do (or have the time)

Entry requirements:

  • Tell me in 100 words or less why you are my ideal client
  • Make a $25 donation to Together We Rise, a non profit dedicated to making a difference in the lives of foster children across the U.S.
TWR focuses on making sure the kids don’t have to carry their belongings around in a garbage bag, so donations are used to provide them with a “sweetcase”.

BACKSTORY: In 2010, my husband and I adopted our son, Justice, out of foster care, so this is a passion of mine. I'm Not Taking My Own Advice

DEADLINE: All entries must postmarked by August 1. The winner of a three month PR package valued at $5,000 will be announced August 15.

Make your $25 donation to Together We Rise here. Then, in the comments below,  tell me in 100 words or less why you are my ideal client.

Both must be received by August 1 to be eligible.

* Only applies to new clients
