How long have you been in business? Academy for Independence was founded in 2007.I have over a decade of experience working with teens and young adults with developmental and learning disabilities, gifted teens, and talented individuals.
Why did you begin your business? I respect diversity and my perspective stretches beyond labels. My belief is that every individual possesses capacities and abilities, regardless of a medical, psychological, or educational “diagnosis.” My gift lies in listening, connecting, and bringing cognitive awareness of my clients’ brilliance into their everyday reality.
What is your mission for your business? Empowering teens from all walks as a head start to conquer their limiting beliefs and acknowledge their potential to fulfill their dreams. In the process, they become an inspiration and invitation for others to acknowledge their gifts and create change on the planet as well. This process transforms them.
What is a guiding principle that you use in your business? My intuition. My acknowledgement of my awareness. My heart. The world grabs at us. We can choose to succumb to this or Breathe and trust our awareness, I choose to Breathe, not suffocate!
If there was one thing you wish you knew before you began your business, what would that be? To get a top business coach. I began with $150. If you don’t have money to invest in a coach, save until you can. Never give up! I followed my heart and while overcoming many business/logical mistakes along the way, listening to my heart has given me the most joy. I embrace the unknown because it allows me to explore and be more creative. The one thing, looking back, would be to have started this sooner than I did.
What makes you a thriving woman in business? My authenticity creativity, and self-confidence.
What do you love about being a thriving woman in business? Simplicity. Self-confidence. Inspiring others.
What is the next big thing or dream for you in your business? My dream is to have a global impact from the heart. Impact doesn’t just mean money and doesn’t mean fame. Impact for me means delivering value in changing lives with authentic passion for those for whom I feel compassion, because of my own story, experiences, and lessons learned.
