Access Inspiration – A Virtual Monthly Book Club for Women – June’s Book: Why Good Sex Matters by Nan Wise, PhD

June 16 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm PDT

Hey Ladies,

We’re now heading into our third month of this book club and it just keeps getting better. Woohoo!

In short, this is a monthly book club that will include a private Facebook group where we can share our thoughts then come together virtually for a discussion on the third Tuesday of the month from 4pm-5:30pm.

Our next virtual gathering will take place on Tuesday, June 16th. The book is:  “Why Good Sex Matters” by Nan Wise, PhD. What’s SUPER exciting is that she plans to join us on our Zoom so the format this time will be an author discussion!!!

**Be sure to start reading now so that you are ready for our meeting on June 16th**

Now before you judge a book by its cover, please understand that this is not just about sex! So if you don’t currently have a partner – YEP THAT WOULD BE ME – hahaha – there are many other reasons to read it.

Here is one of the reviews I lifted from Amazon. 5* Worth the read | “A wonderfully insightful and worthwhile read. Opens up many doors to the self on levels beyond sex and sexuality. Put this one in the collection of positive self-awareness reads.”
Dr. Nan’s work as a sex therapist and neuroscientist has shifted to the study of anhedonia—the inability to experience pleasure from activities usually found enjoyable—and why more people than ever suffer from it. This is a really important topic and worth our attention so though it pertains to sex, it’s not all about that. Here’s a brief description:
“A sex therapist and neuroscientist describes anhedonia, the inability to feel a satisfactory amount of pleasure—and provides the pathway back to fully enjoying sex, food, time with family and friends, and other pastimes, while also staving off depression, anxiety, and addiction.

Assaulted with opportunities for pleasure everywhere—from sex to food or exotic escapes—our culture is becoming more depressed and anxious. Research has shown that many people are having less sex and that those who do have a lot enjoy it less. For more than thirty years, Nan Wise has worked as a therapist helping people gain a satisfying sex life. In recent years, her work has shifted to the study of anhedonia—the inability to experience pleasure from activities usually found enjoyable—and why more people than ever suffer from it.

In Why Good Sex Matters, Wise not only reveals the fundamental problem in how we think about sex and pleasure but also how we arrived at this problematic relationship, to begin with. This fascinating book helps us reclaim our innate capacity for joy, fun, exuberance, curiosity, and humor, while showing how reaching our sexual potential makes us smarter, happier, and more productive people. Ultimately, it reveals how a new understanding of sex can lead to a more expansive experience of pleasure in all aspects of our lives.”
