I get it! You’re a busy woman. As women we tend to wear a variety of hats. The problem is we often forget to take one hat off before we put another one on. How many times have you found yourself exhausted at the end of the day only to find that half of what you put on your “to-do” list actually got done?
You start off in one direction and down the road when you get to the round-about you keep going around instead of pulling out of the turn. We tend to take care of everyone and everything else before our own needs.
Well my dear, just like the flight attendants demonstrate…”You must put your oxygen mask on first then assist your child.” Obviously this is important because it is told to millions of people every day.
Here are three short and easy tips that can help you start putting your oxygen mask on first:
- Morning High Five – Take a few minutes to set an intention for your day give a yourself a little love. Example… Today I will rock my meeting because I am brilliant, prepared and look FABULOUS in my navy suite! You can do this in the morning before you get out of bed, while getting dressed or in the car on your way to work.
- Plan2Pamper – Plan something you enjoy doing and actually put it in your schedule. Just like you would a business meeting or one of your child’s events. Whether it’s a facial, coffee with a girlfriend or a 30 minute walk. Pencil it in and no cancellations allowed!. Start by planning just one thing this week.
- Stop Overcommitting – As women we like to think we can do it all. So we tend to overcommit in business and in our personal lives. Leaving less time for ourselves and again, stuck in that round-about. Before you commit to another request think about how you feel. If the feeling isn’t a “heck-yeah I wanna do that” then your answer should be “sorry I’m going to have to decline.” Believe me, there is another woman dying to do what you just turned down.
Once you start putting YOURSELF first you’ll find that you incorporate more and more things you enjoy into your day. Oh and remember…Breathe! The bag may not inflate but the oxygen will still be flowing!
