How to write and speak about people with disabilities

While researching a blog post about a single mom raising a daughter with Down syndrome, I came across an excellent website that details the proper way to  write and speak about people with disabilities.

For example, did you know that it’s extremely offensive to say “a disabled person” instead of “a person with disabilities”?

Here are the language guidelines from the National Down Syndrome Congress. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
