The past few weeks have been craaaaaa-zy. Client work, home stuff and kid stuff all seemed to converge at the same time and then we went on a 7-day cruise to the Bahamas. We just got back yesterday and I’m buried in dirty, wet, smelly laundry. All of this is to explain why I have been AWOL of late.
Which is no excuse. If you’ve been following me for any length of time, I am constantly preaching the importance of sharing good quality information with your peeps otherwise they won’t be around long. Content is king.
At the same time, don’t waste your followers time with recycled, poorly written, same-old-same-old garbage. If it doesn’t light you up, don’t bother. I think that’s where I am now. In a content rut.
In January, I started posting under a daily theme (Media Monday, Trending Tuesday, 5W Wednesday, Thursday’s Tips, and #FollowFriday) , which helped me focus my content on a specific topic. But, now it feels stale and stinky (kind of like my laundry).
I recently read that when you’re trying to reach your ideal audience, they can’t tell you what they want because they don’t know, but they can always tell you what they don’t want.
So, what don’t you want?

Robin,
I related to your post on two accounts: 1. The heap of stinky laundry after a vacation 2. Feeling as though my blog content is getting stale
I like your question “What don’t you want?” The most frustrating content is the same basic tips my dog could figure out on his own. Only last week I received a LinkedIn pulse update from a big industry name promising “11 tips for filling an event.” Ten were painfully obvious. I was disappointed in the lack of WOW ideas!
Hey Linda,
Thanks for taking the time to write. I’m so glad I am not the only one wrestling with stinky laundry after a vacation!
It’s interesting that the big industry name couldn’t even deliver fresh ideas. I wonder, though, if we rely too heavily on them for information. It would be nice to stir things up with ideas from entrepreneurs who are making a difference in their corner of the world, but don’t have a big enough voice to be heard by everyone.
What do you think?
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
Best,
Robin
