I am frequently asked, “How do you do everything you do, and still find time to take care of yourself?”
I think the answer lies in knowing where to focus. After many years of not doing this very well, I have finally found that there are a few things that, when I do them, make life and business easier and more enjoyable.
Sleep. Sleep is non-negotiable. Adults need seven hours. No exceptions. No shortcuts. Schedule it. Exercise. Our stressful lifestyles create toxins in the body that can’t be removed without movement. Set yourself up for success and schedule a class you enjoy or a simple walk around the block. Your body and brain will thank you.
Let go. Successful leaders know to stay in their lane. What are you great at? Do these activities and then surround yourself with a team that is great at the things that don’t bring you joy or your highest results.
Fuel. Like any fine machine, your body needs the right fuel – more water than you think you need and live foods make everything vibrant.
Community. No one succeeds alone.
Ask. If you don’t, how can help be provided?
Receive. This sounds a little silly, but the “A” for ask won’t work if you don’t allow yourself to receive. Receiving is a form of giving. Both are necessary for results and to fill your well so you can get out to serve others.
Ease. Struggle is addictive, but it may not serve you well. Instead, learn to slow down and pay attention to all that is being provided for you easily.
It is not too good to be true. You are here to make a difference. When you take care of yourself first, you are present, strong and capable of helping others.
